Mr I. Chaldeos graduated the Athens University of Economics and
Business and the Naval Academy. In the Coast
Guard he served in the Harbor Master's office in Piraeus, in the
General Directorate for Merchant Ships Inspection, in the Ministry
of Mercantile Marine and as the Registrar of Ships for the port of
Piraeus. During his service he had been also detached to the
Hellenic Army General Staff in charge of the Army's Sea
Transportation office where he received honorary awards from the
Hellenic National Defense General Staff, twice, for his exemplary
services in minimizing the cost of shipping of heavy military
equipment.
Ioannis Chaldeos had been involved with shipowning, since 1969,
together with his brother Capt. P.E.P. Chaldeos. Of course, the
shipping roots of the Chaldeos family date much earlier, prior
to WWII, when their father Platon Chaldeos had time chartered one very small
general cargo vessel to transport agriproducts from Southern
Peloponnesus to Piraeus. Unfortunately, his operations were disrupted with the
outbreak of the war and the sinking of the vessel.
Since the start of its business Totis
Maritime S.A. operated as a tramp vessel company under the wing of
Chaldeos Freighters Ltd and in always in line with Chaldeos shipping
family's values, philosophy and policies.
Despite the deep market crisis that followed and lasted until
1987 operations were successful and the Company had quickly gained
good reputation which had a result to be able charter out with
first class charterers such as CZARNIKOV, CONTINENTAL GRAIN,
SOVFRACHT, NYK, IRISL, DAICHI, PIC, QAFCO, RICHCO, SABAH GAS
INDUSTRIES, INTERCOM, GUYBULK OF KLAVENESS GROUP, TOEPFER, VON
APPEN, BUNGE, VITOL, CARGILL and many others.
In 1993 the company moved to new offices at 122 Akti
Themistokleous in Piraeus.
In the years that followed the family group owned, managed and
successfully operated more vessels up to Panamax size. In
total, the number of vessels under Chaldeos family ownership was
21 vessels, or 402,197 deadweight
tons and had transported tens of millions tons of cargo.
In 2006 the company sold its last vessel m/v 'Kallisto' for
further trading.
In late 2008 moved offices to 143-145 Notara Street in Piraeus and
since then is waiting for favorable conditions to re-enter the
market.
In short, our Company's
achievements over the years are as follows:
- Managed to survive during the deep crisis of the 1980s,
while other giant and medium sized shipowners collapsed, and
through the modest market of the 1990s. Despite the difficulties
of the charter market were able to collect all hires, freights and demurrages,
without any losses from claims whatsoever.
- In line with our policy, kept our vessels always at high
standards of maintenance and seaworthiness so that the vessels
were able to trade without any problems between all ports
including US and European ports, in order to benefit from
interesting chartering opportunities. None of our vessels was ever
delayed by the Coast Guard or Port State Control and none of our
vessels ever incurred any losses to our underwriters.
- Our vessels, although overage, offered perfect performance
always and thus managed to attract the preference of First Class Major
Charterers who fixed them repeatedly.
- We honored our obligations to our lenders without any delay or
anomaly.
- All our shipping projects produced very good results.
Today, our Company maintains its
established network of contacts and counterparts and aims to acquire
new vessels in the short term. The intention is to expand but to
maintain the family business philosophy, i.e. to remain traditional
and conservative.
Totis Maritime S.A. is committed to ethical behavior and to
achieving and furthering best practice at every level of the
business. The Company's IMO number is 0762877.
Head of the Company's operations today is Mr Platon Chaldeos.
